SUNDAY 12TH MARCH 2023
Nothing much to report this week but it was International Women’s Day on Thursday so it seems like the perfect excuse to do a shout out to all the fabulous women in my life…..
To my wonderful mum – best friend, ally, confidante, inspiration, the list goes on…. To my wonderful sisters – travelling companions in the world and in life – how lucky I am to have you both. To my daughter, whose very existence is proof to me that, if the desire is strong enough, the Universe will surely deliver. To my beautiful niece …. and the little great nieces too. To my sisters-in-law and nieces-in-law and mother-in-law – I am so glad to have you as part of my tribe. To my friends, from the oldest to the newest – thank you for all the ways you put up with me, support me, inspire me and make me laugh. Go, us – we are all f***king rock stars!
To Annie Grace, whose book changed my life in 2020, by changing my relationship with alcohol, and to all the other soberistas who have bravely shared their stories and inspired me on my sober journey – Catherine Gray, Sarah Hepola, Jolene Park, Clare Pooley, Karolina Rzadkowolska, Holly Whitaker, Casey McGuire. To Gin Stephens, whose book, ‘Fast, Feast Repeat’, which I discovered in 2021, was a revelation to me and became the second book in as many years that I would go on to credit with changing my life. I knew there was a third book out there for me and I suspected it would be penned by a woman. A couple of times I thought I’d found it but ultimately, they didn’t stick. Then, in September 2022, a podcast episode appeared in my downloads. I know I hadn’t downloaded it myself because I’d never heard of the podcast or the host – I had, however, heard of the guest (Holly Whitaker), so I listened to it. At the end of the episode, they talked about books that had inspired them, one of which was ‘The Secret’. I took note, found out that there was a copy in my local library and went in to find it waiting for me at the end of a row. And just like that, Rhonda Byrne became the third female author that I will credit with transforming my life and to whom I will be eternally grateful.
